What is the iCareCard? |
| |
The iCareCard is a Check Card (also referred to as a Debit
Card) which can be activated to Debit your iCareCard
Account when you use it. |
| |
|
| |
Is the iCareCard a Pre-Loaded card? |
| |
No.
The iCareCard draws funds from your iCareCard Account,
which is housed at our bank. The funds in your account
are FDIC insured up to $250,000. The big difference is
that you receive a high rate of interest on the funds
that are in your account, assuming you use your iCareCards for at least 10 point-of-sale purchases per
month, and keep an average balance of at least $1,000 in
your account. For example, if you have two iCareCards linked to
your account, each card would only need to be used 5
times per month in order to qualify for the high interest rate. |
| |
|
| |
Can I still use my current bank accounts? |
| |
Yes, iCareCard uses your existing bank account to place funds in your new iCareCard
account.
You can decide how much money you want to keep in
your iCareCard account to earn
interest and to support your expenditures.
As you continue to use your iCareCard for purchases,
you can replenish the funds in your iCareCard
account by initiating transfers from your bank
account into your iCareCard account. |
| |
|
| |
What are the advantages of using the iCareCard? |
| |
There are a number of advantages, including: |
| |

card provides a low transaction fee to the merchant,
allowing him to hold down prices to the benefit of you,
the customer. |
| |
-
There
is no cost to you for using your card to make a
purchase. |
| |
-
Use of
the iCareCard provides benefits to the charities or
special causes that you select when you activate your
card, at no cost to you. |
| |
-
You
receive an attractive interest rate on the balance in
your account. |

| |
- Use your iCareCard for everyday purchases.
To qualify for the fuel discount, there must be at least 3 purchases of $10.00
or more each for every 1 fuel purchase on your account, per month. Use
your iCareCard at grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, and other retailers
(including online!) for your routine purchases, and for every 3 qualifying

of the ATM that you use may assess an additional fee.
That fee should display on the ATM before you make your
transaction, and at that point you can decide whether to
proceed. You may want to consider using your iCareCard
at one of thousands of merchants who provide a Cash Back
option. Typically there are no fees associated with a
purchase, and a Cash Back option. Some merchants allow
you to receive as much as $100.00 back. You can
also transfer funds into your regular checking
account by selecting the 'Funds Transfer' option in
the MyAccount section of the iCareCard.org website. |

| |
|
| |
Why do you ask for my Social Security Number and Drivers
License information? |
| |
Since the attacks
of 9/11/01, the
Department of Homeland Security has passed regulations
designed to provide positive identification of people
opening bank accounts. The information we request is used for that
purpose. In addition, since you receive interest on the
balance in your iCareCard account your Social Security
Number is needed for Year-End interest reporting to the
government. |
| |
|
| |

| |

of sale. The Visa logo allows the card to be used at
virtually all merchants. |
| |
|
| |
Why doesn’t the iCareCard offer mileage rewards or
percentage cash back rewards? |
| |
These types of programs are usually associated with credit
card transactions, where the merchant is actually
funding the program through the transaction fees he
pays. We prefer to provide a low cost transaction to the
merchant, thereby promoting lower prices for all
consumers. We believe that our cardholders will see the
advantages of providing some assistance to those in need
through the iCareCard program, and in participating in
the containment of prices for all consumers. |

| |
What is “Amount on Hold?” |
| |
Amount On Hold is a dollar amount which is set aside to
pay for Signature Purchases (PINless) that you have made
with your iCareCards, but which have not yet “Settled.”
A signature based purchase normally causes two
transactions to occur, a “PreAuthorization”, and a
“Completion.” The PreAuthorization is done immediately
when your card is swiped at a terminal. The purpose is
to verify the validity of the card, and also to verify
that there are adequate funds in your iCareCard Account
to cover the anticipated cost of the purchase. A
“Completion” is normally done at the end of the
merchant’s business day. Consequently, many times a
PreAuthorization is presented on one business day, while
the Completion may be submitted a day or two later. The
amount of the PreAuthoizations, at any given time, make
up the Amount On Hold. Normally, the amount of a
PreAuthorization, and the Amount of the corresponding
Completion will be the same. There are at least two
notable differences, however. |
| |
Example 1: Restaurants-Typically when you finish your
meal, you will give your iCareCard to the wait staff
after having been presented with your bill. The waiter
will take your card and run it through the restaurant
terminal, with a dollar amount equal to the amount of
your bill. This is the PreAuthorization. The waiter then
returns with a ticket for you to sign, including a line
for you to add a tip, and total the bill. The waiter
will then take your completed ticket back to the
terminal and “Complete” the transaction for the total at
the bottom of the ticket, which now includes your tip.
This Completion will most likely be submitted to the
system at the end of the business day. In this scenario,
the dollar amount difference between the
PreAuthorization and Completion is only the amount of
your tip. |
| |
Example 2: Pay at Pump using Signature (typically done
by using the “Credit” button on the pump). The process
is similar to the example above, except that the fuel
vendor has no idea how much fuel you will pump. The
PreAuthorization occurs when you insert your card at the
pump before you begin fueling. A common practice in this
instance is to set the PreAuthorization amount at $1.00.
After you finish fueling, the Completion will be
submitted at the end of the business day for the actual
amount of fuel you pumped. In this case there will
normally be a very large difference between the
PreAuthorization and the Completion, ie a $1.00 PreAuth
and a $65.00 Completion. |
| |
Remember that the Amount On Hold is the sum of the
outstanding PreAuths, so in the 2nd example
above, the PreAuth is not really reflective of the
amount that you have spent with your iCareCard. You
should keep this in mind if you are trying to closely
monitor the balance in your iCareCard Account, because
iCareCard won’t know the true amount of the Completions
until they are submitted to the system. |
| |
|
| |
How do I set up text messaging alerts? |
| |
When you set up your account (Profile) you can choose
various options for us to notify you of your Account
Balance. One of those options is for a text message. You
simply put your text mail address into the Profile. Text
mail addresses are similar to an email address, and the
various providers each have a specific addressing
formula. If you choose to use text messaging, you should
check with your provider to understand whether you have
texting available, and if there is a cost to you for
receiving text messages. The text mail addressing
standards, at this time, for some of the more popular
providers is as follows: |
| |
AT&T Wireless:
nnnnnnnnnn@txt.att.net |
| |
U.S. Cellular:
nnnnnnnnnn@email.uscc.net |
| |
Verizon Wireless
nnnnnnnnnn@vtext.com |
| |
Note:
Replace the “n”s with your 10 digit mobile number.

| |
Can I have more than one bank account associated
with my iCareCard? |
| |
Each iCareCard account has one bank account from
which it draws. If you have more than
one iCareCard, you can set up a separate iCareCard
account for each card and then connect each
iCareCard account to a different bank account. |
| |
|
| |
I received more than one card. Do they all
have to be associated with the same iCareCard account? |
| |
Each card
can be associated with a separate iCareCard account
if desired. Simply activate the first card,
and when prompted to activate a second card, do not
select that option. Instead, after completing the
activation process for the first card, begin a
new activation process for the second card. |
